The campaign is needed now more than ever. The number of Latinas contracting HIV has skyrocketed from 15% of all female AIDS cases to over 23% of such cases in 2002, despite the fact that Latinos account for only 14% of the population of the United States. The Latino Commission provides counseling and testing, prevention education which targets women in both English and Spanish, and awareness campaigns in community settings. Our programs are innovative, but we need to reach so many more women who may not have access to information. We need to fight the stigma and discrimination that have fueled the spread of this virus.
